Barcelona have continued to monitor the free-agent market this summer as the club looks for opportunities to strengthen Hansi Flick’s squad without committing to expensive transfer fees.
With financial restrictions still influencing recruitment, experienced players available without a transfer fee naturally remain attractive options whenever they fit the club’s plans.
Flick also knows the value of working with players he already understands, having coached several of Europe’s biggest names during his successful spell in Germany.
That familiarity has inevitably fuelled speculation over possible reunions at the Camp Nou whenever former Bayern Munich players become available.
One such opportunity has now emerged, but Barcelona’s response appears to be clear.
According to SPORT, Leon Goretzka has offered himself to Barcelona after becoming a free agent following the expiry of his Bayern Munich contract.
The report states that the German midfielder’s representatives recently made contact with Barcelona’s sporting department to gauge whether the club would be interested in signing him.
Leon Goretzka already knows Flick’s methods well, having played under the Barcelona boss at Bayern Munich between 2019 and 2021.
During that period, the midfielder made 64 appearances under Flick and established himself as an important part of one of Europe’s strongest sides.
Despite that existing relationship, however, Barcelona are not expected to pursue a deal.
The report claims sporting director Deco and the club’s recruitment team are not currently considering a move for the 30-year-old.
That decision comes despite Goretzka still showing his quality last season.
Although he was not an automatic starter under Vincent Kompany, the experienced midfielder still featured prominently, making 48 appearances across all competitions while playing more than 2,300 minutes.
He remained an important member of the Bayern squad as the German giants completed a domestic clean sweep and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
