Barcelona continue to reshape the future of the club with another promising addition to their ranks.

While much of the attention has centred on Hansi Flick’s first team during the transfer window, work has also been taking place to strengthen the next generation of talent.

The Catalan giants have already been active across multiple levels of the club, ensuring there is depth not only for today but also for the years ahead.

That strategy has now brought another highly-rated youngster to Spain.

Barcelona have officially confirmed, via their website, the signing of Ecuadorian defender Josue Caicedo on loan from LDU Quito for the 2026/27 season.

The 18-year-old joins Barca Atletic on a season-long deal, with the Blaugrana also securing an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

The agreement was confirmed in an official club statement.

“FC Barcelona and LDU Quito have reached an agreement for the loan of Josue Caicedo to Barca Atletic for the 2026/27 season.

“The 18-year-old Ecuadorian footballer joins the Barca reserve team with an option to buy at the end of the season and will strengthen the squad managed by Juliano Belletti in the Segunda Federacion.”

Caicedo arrives in Catalonia regarded as one of Ecuador’s brightest defensive prospects.

Comfortable at left-back but capable of operating anywhere down the flank, the teenager is known for his attacking style and willingness to push forward.

Despite his age, he has already broken into LDU Quito’s senior side, making 8 first-team appearances before earning his move to Barcelona.

The deal also includes a reported €2.5 million purchase option, giving the Spanish club the opportunity to make the transfer permanent if the youngster impresses during his loan spell.

With Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atletic side continuing to serve as an important pathway towards the first team, Caicedo will now look to continue his development while adapting to Spanish football.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have once again demonstrated their commitment to investing in emerging talent from around the world as they continue building for both the present and the future.
