FC Barcelona’s hopes of signing a dynamic star are under threat as Inter Milan moves closer to securing their top transfer target.
FC Barcelona’s transfer plans have hit an unexpected snag as a key target they were pursuing has set his sights elsewhere, complicating their efforts to bolster their attacking lineup.
With Hansi Flick’s squad aiming to strengthen their forward options for the 2025/26 season, the Catalan giants are facing stiff competition from a Serie A powerhouse, which could see them miss out on a versatile star who has been turning heads in Italy.
The player in question is Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, a 27-year-old Nigerian forward who has emerged as a prime target for Barcelona, alongside Atletico Madrid and Napoli.
According to Goal, Lookman has rejected offers from these clubs, prioritizing a move to Inter Milan instead.
The former Everton and Leicester City winger, who scored a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 2024 Europa League final victory, is keen to join the San Siro outfit, but Inter’s latest bid falls short of Atalanta’s €50 million valuation.
Barcelona’s interest in Lookman stemmed from his versatility and proven goal-scoring ability in Serie A, where he notched 12 goals and five assists in 18 starts last season.
His dynamic play style aligns with Flick’s high-pressing system, making him a potential fit alongside young stars like Lamine Yamal.
However, Lookman’s preference for Inter, who have reportedly agreed personal terms with a five-year deal worth €4.5 million annually, has put Barcelona’s plans in jeopardy.
Inter’s pursuit, backed by their American owners Oaktree, could see an improved offer soon, as Lookman has even offered to lower his salary to €3.5 million to facilitate the transfer.
For Barcelona, losing out on Lookman adds pressure to their transfer strategy, especially after securing Marcus Rashford on loan.
As the transfer window progresses, the Blaugrana must pivot to alternative targets to ensure their attack remains potent, while Inter Milan appears poised to hijack their plans for the Atalanta star.
