Barcelona is poised for a major squad overhaul as four key players are set to depart, aligning with Hansi Flick’s vision.
Barcelona is ramping up efforts to streamline the squad for the 2025/26 season with focused ambition, with an “operation exit” already underway to balance the books and move into Hansi Flick’s plans.
With signings displayed as Joan García and proposals for high-end players elsewhere drawing to a close, it’s now down to working on player exits to manage salary caps and allow space for new players in.
According to Marca, the sporting director is trying hard to work through the futures of all the players deemed surplus to Flick’s tactical shape while ensuring that the team remains competitive and commercial parameters with La Liga can be adhered to.
This will involve a sizeable remodel to maximise what’s possible from the squad for the challenge ahead.
Prominent figures in this exit strategy include Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre, Oriol Romeu, and Andreas Christensen.
Fati is set to join Monaco on loan, and the process to finalise negotiations would appear to be relatively advanced.
Torre just underwent medicals ahead of a permanent transfer deal to Mallorca, including a future clause around Barcelona.
Romeu looks set to depart as a free transfer as he has surplus requirements after his loan at Girona, especially with his contract until 2026.
Christensen, a central defender, has been earmarked for sale for financial reasons.
These exits follow quickly after Lenglet and Álex Valle, and mark a transition away from loans to sales with flexibility.
Barcelona’s “accelerated” operation underlines its broader goals of financial recovery and continuity of the squad.
The club is looking to close these exits so it can eventually obtain compliance for “Fair Play” requirements to bring players like Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji.
Flick’s impact is already being felt, as he pushes for a more streamlined and athletic squad to compete in La Liga and the Champions League, while preparing for a season of transition.
