FC Barcelona is preparing for the possibility of changes on their defense, with rumors circulating of one of their young talents.

According to reports, a club in the Premier League is closing in on a deal for a left-back who has recently debuted in the first team, and Barcelona are prepared to pivot to an ex-Barcelona prospect to replace him, which shows that they wish to maintain their quality in full-back despite other priorities.

Mundo Deportivo states the player of interest is Gerard Martín, who Wolverhampton Wanderers are targeting, because it is believed they will lose Rayan Aït-Nouri to Manchester City.

If Martín were to leave, then Barcelona has identified Alejandro Grimaldo, who was a former product of La Masia and has enjoyed success at Bayer Leverkusen, as their number one option to come back.

Grimaldo, who previously enjoyed his time at Benfica, has been linked with a return to Barcelona in recent years, and he recently stated the love he has for Barcelona and left the door open for a return.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has been tracking Grimaldo, whose attacking talent and defensive stability should fit in well with the squad.

Not that they need a full-back, but if Martín were to leave, they would have some money to spend, and bring in Grimaldo, whose experience could fill the hole at left full-back (for a high transfer fee).

As the transfer window progresses, Barcelona would have to weigh some important considerations.

Losing Martín should provide a decent amount of wiggle room, but if they can secure a real player like Grimaldo, it shows their ambition to remain relevant in the league.

Grimaldo’s potential return to the club could be monumental, as it would bring back Good memories while continuing to build a roster for the Catalan side!
