FC Barcelona has bolstered its squad with the signing of a talented Espanyol midfielder on a free transfer.

The player, arriving from Espanyol, has signed a contract that ties him to the club for two seasons, until June 30, 2027.

This move marks a significant return for a player who previously developed within Barcelona’s youth system.

The new signing is Roger Martinez, a Badalona-born midfielder who spent his early career at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, as confirmed by an official club statement.

From 2013 to 2016, Martinez progressed through the club’s youth ranks, playing for the Benjamin B, Alevin D, and Alevin B teams.

His journey later led him to UE Cornella and then to Espanyol, where he made his professional debut.

Last season, Martinez gained valuable experience on loan at CD Lugo, featuring in 34 matches and scoring one goal.

With his Espanyol contract expiring earlier this month, Barcelona capitalized on the opportunity to bring him back.

Martinez’s return strengthens Barça Atletic, the club’s reserve team, where he will play under coach Juliano Belletti.

Having completed medical tests and visited the club’s facilities, Martinez has already joined training sessions at Vall d’en Bas.

His familiarity with Barcelona’s playing style and philosophy, instilled during his La Masia days, positions him as a valuable addition to the squad.

Martinez will aim to contribute to Barça Atletic’s ambition of earning promotion back to the RFEF Primera Division.

The 22-year-old midfielder brings versatility and experience to the team, having proven himself in competitive environments.

His time at CD Lugo showcased his ability to perform consistently, and now, back at Barcelona, he has the chance to further his development.

Martinez’s signing reflects Barcelona’s strategy of blending youth with experience, leveraging his prior connection to the club to drive success for Barça Atletic in the upcoming seasons.
