FC Barcelona has opened serious negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt over their €75m-rated key defender in a blockbuster move.
Despite already having trust in their current options on the left side of defence and a promising academy talent pushing through, the Catalan giants are still exploring the market for a potential long-term upgrade.
The player in question has rapidly emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders, combining physical power, athleticism and end-product in the final third.
With competition from major European rivals and a price tag that could reach around €70–75 million, any transfer would require a major financial effort and likely depend on outgoings and priorities elsewhere in the squad.
The target is Eintracht Frankfurt and Germany left-back Nathaniel Brown, who has attracted concrete interest from Barcelona after establishing himself as a regular starter in the Bundesliga, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The 22-year-old has impressed this season with a goal and three assists in 18 appearances, showcasing his ability to influence games both defensively and offensively.
His performances have also earned him a breakthrough into the German national team, where he has already registered a couple of caps, further boosting his profile.
Brown’s mix of defensive solidity, recovery pace and attacking thrust fits well with the modern full-back profile Barcelona seek, especially in Flick’s system, which relies heavily on aggressive, adventurous wide defenders.
Eintracht Frankfurt are braced for his departure and values him in the €60–70 million range, confident that at least one of Europe’s heavyweights will eventually pay up.
For Barcelona, the key question is whether investing such a fee in a left-back makes sense when a new centre-forward remains the priority.
They will get an ideal live audition soon, with a Champions League clash against Eintracht offering Flick and Deco a perfect chance to judge Brown up close before deciding if this is a luxury or a necessity.
