Barcelona enters talks with a Serie A defender over a €45m transfer, targeting the ball-playing centre-back to strengthen their backline.
Rather than paying the very high fee demanded by Inter for Alessandro Bastoni, the Catalan club is now looking at a 27‑year‑old Colombian defender whose market price is reported to be around €45 million.
That figure makes him a far more realistic option within Barcelona’s current financial constraints, while still offering a level of quality and potential that fits Hansi Flick’s system.
The player in question is Jhon Lucumí, Bologna’s reliable centre‑back, who has been on Barcelona’s radar for over a year, as reported by Diario Sport.
The club’s sporting department has long admired his strength, aerial presence, and composure on the ball, and his performances in Italy’s top flight have only strengthened that view.
Lucumí’s current deal with Bologna runs until 2027. Yet, reports suggest he has already rejected a renewal offer, which opens the door for a summer transfer and gives Barcelona hope of negotiating a move that suits both sides.
For Barcelona, the appeal lies in combining a manageable fee with a player who is still in his prime and who has proven he can compete at the highest level.
Lucumí would give Flick another option to rotate alongside Ronald Araújo, Pau Cubarsí, and other young defenders, while also providing a safety net should the Bastoni transfer prove too expensive or unworkable.
Serie A clubs, including Juventus, Milan, and Napoli, have also shown interest in the Colombian, but Barcelona’s focused pursuit and clear project could help them stand out in the race.
If Lucumí himself is drawn by the chance to join a top‑tier club and return to the Champions League, Barcelona could be well-positioned to make a deal happen.
With Bastoni still Barcelona’s preferred name, the Lucumí option allows them to move quickly if a breakthrough fails.
If the €45 million‑level talks progress well, the Colombian could become one of the most sensible defensive reinforcements Barcelona make this summer.
