Deco meets a top La Liga star over the summer transfer as the Blaugrana opens direct dialogue and positions the player as a priority target.
With planning well underway for the next phase of Hansi Flick’s project, the sporting director is exploring opportunities to strengthen the goalkeeping department without disrupting the current hierarchy.
That has led him to a proven La Liga standout who has long been admired inside the club.
That goalkeeper is Alex Remiro, with Deco recently meeting the Real Sociedad star’s agents to discuss a possible move at the end of the season.
Barcelona have been tracking Remiro for years and now see a potential opening as he enters the final year of his contract this summer, according to Diario Sport.
Once protected by a €70 million release clause, the 30-year-old could now be available for a significantly lower fee, as La Real look to avoid the risk of losing him for free in 2027.
The context at Barça has shifted since Joan Garcia’s arrival stabilised a position that was in flux last summer.
Even so, the club believes adding an experienced, high-level option to work alongside the 24-year-old would protect them across a long season in La Liga and Europe.
Remiro’s consistency, leadership, and familiarity with Spanish football make him an attractive candidate to step in when rotation is needed without a drop in standards.
For now, goalkeeping is not classified as an urgent priority compared to a centre-forward or left-footed centre-back, and any move for Remiro will depend heavily on how successfully Barcelona can comply with La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule.
The idea would be for him to arrive as a strong backup option, easing the workload while maintaining fierce competition for minutes.
No final decision has been made, but Deco’s face-to-face talks with the player’s camp underline that Barcelona are seriously considering reinforcing between the posts if the right deal and conditions present themselves this summer.
