FC Barcelona has secured a promising 19-year-old winger from Copenhagen for €2.5 million, strengthening their squad.
The agreement includes a 15% sell-on clause for Copenhagen, which aligns with the philosophy of developing players for future use.
However, it is terrific that Barcelona acquired him for that amount of money, as they still need to exercise financial prudence in the market at this time, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The player, Roony Bardghji, whose contract with Copenhagen is active until December 2025, must only complete a medical check to finalize the transfer.
This is another promising step that Barҫa has made towards rebuilding a squad filled with young talent.
The teenage sensation had impressed Barcelona’s sporting department with his youthful exuberance; despite Porto being in the mix, having matched their €2.5 million offer, Bardghji chose to come to the Blaugrana, and more importantly, he is a natural right-winger, plays quickly, creates goals, and scores them.
The next step of Bardghji’s career with Hansi Flick’s project playing at Camp Nou, and at first, it appears he will start out with Barҫa Atletic (the second team), and be able to train with the first team, before an eventual call-up.
This signing demonstrates Barcelona’s focus on long-term thinking, continuing the club’s trend of bringing in players for long-term development aspirations, like Lamine Yamal.
The way in which Barcelona was able to sign Bardghji for a fairly low price, while fending off competition, further shows that the work of sporting director Deco is paying off.
Even with this signing, other challenges exist: Barcelona still must navigate Financial Fair Play rules to register new players.
Nonetheless, Bardghji’s arrival is positive news for fans, who have every right to see him as one of the future core members of the team.
Although the club is working towards adjusting its financial situation, this kind of investment shows a commitment to properly managing youth & ambition, so that Barcelona can remain a competitive force in European football.
