Chelsea prepare €70m bid for Barcelona star as they target the experienced campaigner to boost their squad depth.
The Blues are gearing up to table a substantial offer worth around €70 million in the coming weeks as part of their summer rebuilding plan under manager Liam Rosenior.
The target is seen as a priority to strengthen both the right‑back and central‑defence positions, helping Chelsea cut through Premier League opposition with more verticality and defensive solidity.
The Barcelona defender at the centre of this approach is Jules Koundé, the 27‑year‑old France international, who was already a key figure under Hansi Flick this season, as reported by Fichajes.
Kounde is contributing several goals and assists while rotating between centre‑back and right‑back, where he has arguably become one of the most complete wide defenders in Europe.
Koundé originally joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2022, after Chelsea came close to signing him at Atalanta’s training ground in 2021, and the Blues have never fully abandoned their interest since.
Barcelona’s stance has been to treat Koundé as a long‑term asset, especially given his contract extension to 2030, but mounting financial pressure and the club’s desire to pre‑finance big‑money targets have softened their position.
On a personal level, Koundé is reportedly comfortable at Barcelona but has not ruled out a move if the right sporting and financial package arrives.
Chelsea’s interest is framed as a chance to play regular central‑defence minutes under Maresca, plus a significant wage uplift, while Barcelona would see the deal as a way to boost their transfer budget ahead of pursuing new signings in attack and central defence.
If Chelsea’s 70m bid is formally tabled and Barcelona’s board decide this is the right moment to cash in, Koundé could become one of the more impactful defensive reinforcements in the Premier League this summer.
