Barcelona to sell two players for Viktor Gyokeres

While sacrifices will be painful, the prospect of obtaining a prolific forward may justify the upheaval for Barcelona.

Barcelona summer transfer plans could see two important players leave to make space for an important offensive signing, Viktor Gyokeres.

The cash raised could be from a defender who has been key in the team’s backline for years, and an unwanted feature in the forward line, but the return on these two players could offset the cost of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.

This is quite the shift, with the focus on securing an additional attacking option, rather than focusing on the lopsided defense and hoping for improvement with Hansi Flick.

The defender has been an asset to the team due to his physicality and leadership.

But the future is uncertain for him, and the forward, who was bought some time ago for a large fee and never fully convinced, is on the outs, to hopefully be replaced by someone who will make an impact in the final third.

Their departures will likely exceed €100 million, allowing the team to go into the market looking to bring in quality.

Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres can potentially be sold, with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres the leading target to enhance the attack.

The Swedish striker has been phenomenal, with 43 goals across all competitions last season.

His combination of strength, movement, and finishing would provide an element of centrality that has been absent from Barcelona.

Losing Araujo would certainly be an emotional blow, but the arrival of Gyokeres, coupled with the financial relief provided by the sale of Araujo, could be vital in restructuring the squad weeding the new era.

While sacrifices will be painful, the prospect of obtaining a prolific forward may justify the upheaval.

The next few weeks should reveal if the club is ready to make such a high-risk decision.
