Barcelona have continued to make plans for the next generation at Camp Nou, with another highly-rated youngster making significant progress towards senior football.
La Masia has once again become an important part of the club’s long-term planning, with Barcelona increasingly focused on keeping their brightest academy prospects within the system.
Among those attracting attention is a midfielder who has spent most of his teenage years developing in Catalonia after making a huge move from southern Spain.
Pedro Rodriguez was only 11 when he left Granada and made the journey to Barcelona in pursuit of his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
The decision meant leaving his family behind at an incredibly young age, but the midfielder gradually settled into life at La Masia and began climbing through the academy ranks.
His development has accelerated over the past two years, with Pedro Rodriguez playing an important role in the Juvenil A side before beginning to make the step towards Barca Atletic.
And now, Barcelona have moved to secure Pedro’s long-term future by agreeing a new contract with the 18-year-old that will keep him at the club until 2030, as reported by Cadena SER.
Pedro has already built an impressive record during his time in the academy.
He was part of Juliano Belletti’s Juvenil A side that enjoyed a remarkable 2024-25 campaign, winning the league, Copa del Rey and UEFA Youth League, with the midfielder featuring eight times in the European competition.
His progress continued last season, when he remained with the Juvenil A setup and made 32 league appearances, scoring nine goals.
He also made three appearances for Barca Atletic as he began getting a taste of football at the next level.
Pedro’s versatility has also been one of the reasons for the excitement surrounding him.
He can operate as a No. 6 or No. 8, with his ability to read the game, maintain possession and find passing lanes standing out.
Rodriguez suffered an injury at the beginning of the 2026/27 campaign which ruled him out of the opening league fixture for Barca Atletic, although he has gradually increased his involvement since returning.
The teenager’s current deal was originally due to expire in June 2027, making the new agreement an important step for Barcelona as they look to prevent one of their most promising academy midfielders from entering the final year of his contract.
Pedro had already demonstrated his commitment to the club in 2024, when he renewed his contract as a Cadet despite interest from clubs in France and the Netherlands.
He has also represented Spain at youth level, earning international recognition with the Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 teams.
For now, the focus will be on continuing his development with Barca Atletic rather than rushing him into Hansi Flick’s first-team plans.
