The summer transfer window has already proven to be quietly profitable for Barcelona, and the club’s directors will be pleased with how the accounts are shaping up ahead of a vital rebuilding phase.
With the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo and Ez Abde moving on to pastures new, the Catalan club has earned some welcome revenue through clever sell-on clauses inserted into past deals.
These funds are especially important as Barcelona have finalised and look to finalise new arrivals, including the high-profile signings of Joan Garcia and Nico Williams.
Barca’s ongoing financial balancing act means every euro counts — even those that come from forgotten former players.
Now, the club is set to pocket another tidy sum without any negotiating, as one of their long-departed midfielders is on the verge of a new adventure.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will receive €1.5 million from the impending sale of Ludovit Reis to Club Brugge, thanks to a 25% sell-on clause agreed when he joined Hamburg in 2021.
The Dutch midfielder, who also holds Slovak heritage, is leaving Hamburg for a fee of €6 million.
But due to the clause in his original deal, a quarter of that figure heads straight to the Camp Nou coffers.
Ludovit Reis was signed by Barcelona from FC Groningen in 2019 for €3.25 million.
He arrived with a high ceiling and even had a €100 million release clause attached to his contract, but he never made a first-team appearance for the club.
After a single season with Barca B, the midfielder was loaned to VfL Osnabruck in Germany and later sold permanently to Hamburg, where he slowly built his reputation.
He played a central role in Hamburg’s promotion to the Bundesliga this past season, prompting Belgian giants Club Brugge to make their move.
Interestingly, negotiations for the transfer nearly collapsed, as Hamburg wanted to raise the fee to €7.5 million to avoid sending a chunk to Barcelona.
But Brugge refused, and the original €6 million valuation stood, with Barca earning a surprise slice of the pie.
