Barcelona’s sporting department have spent the past few weeks recalibrating their long-term squad strategy, with several academy graduates and former prospects continuing to shape the club’s future one way or another.

The Catalans remain deep in discussions over next season’s wage structure, with outgoing clauses and sell-on rights becoming increasingly important in ensuring financial stability.

As part of this broader planning, senior figures at the club have been monitoring the performances of former La Masia talents now thriving elsewhere in Europe.

Their progress is being tracked not only for sentimental reasons, but because each move has the potential to influence Barca’s economic outlook in a tight market.

And as the latest scouting reports arrive at the Ciutat Esportiva, one name has unexpectedly jumped back onto the agenda.

Barcelona’s long-running policy of retaining sell-on percentages for departing youngsters appears set to reward them once again, with renewed attention falling on Ez Abde and his rapid rise in Andalusia.

The winger left Barcelona in the summer of 2023 after deciding that regular minutes would be too difficult to secure amid intense competition for attacking roles.

Eager to accelerate his development, he opted for a fresh start and accepted Real Betis’ proposal, with the Seville-based club paying €7.5 million for 50% of his rights.

It was a move built on opportunity rather than frustration, giving Ez Abde the platform to play consistently and evolve without the weekly pressure of the Camp Nou spotlight.

Although flashes of talent were evident during his Barca spell, continuity was missing, something he has now firmly established at Betis.

Under Manuel Pellegrini this season, Abde has become one of Betis’ standout performers.

With 17 appearances across all competitions, six goals and five assists, his influence has grown with every passing month.

Unsurprisingly, several major European clubs have begun to monitor his progress, and in Barcelona there is a growing awareness that his upward curve could translate into a valuable financial return, as reported by SPORT.

Although Barca currently hold only 20% of any future sale, that share could still generate meaningful revenue if Betis receive substantial offers.

The club originally retained 50% of Abde’s rights, but this figure was later reduced when Betis helped facilitate Vitor Roque’s move to Palmeiras, a compromise Barcelona accepted to address a separate transfer priority.

Even with that reduction, the potential sale of Abde would deliver a welcome injection of funds to a club scrutinising every economic detail as they prepare for another crucial summer.
