FC Barcelona is strategically planning for the future, targeting four elite forwards to replace the legendary Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona is preparing for a painful and monumental change in 2026 when they will soon say goodbye to Robert Lewandowski, whose contract will expire before their eyes.
Although they will still not have the vast resources a club like Barça should possess, the Catalan titans are reportedly aiming to cash in on a huge sale to create financial muscle to sign a world-class successor to their star striker.
This is a preemptive financial maneuver that helps reduce debts while positioning the team to remain competitive on the pitch in La Liga and elsewhere, as reported by Diario Sport.
The sporting director (and president!) is already looking for long-term value to ultimately lead the attack, having admitted their current attacker’s place in the squad is uncertain due to a crow-feeding, low-price turnover recruitment strategy, if he can afford to acquire and incur stadium debt.
Even after their elder statesman proved on the pitch that he still actively contributes at a high level, the club appears to be sensibly planning for the future of the squad, by positional replacement analysis.
Recently, it has been reported that the club’s high-profile signings have attracted four notable candidates to be considered as a replacement for footballing legend Robert Lewandowski: Julian Alvarez, Viktor Gyokeres, Jonathan David, and Alexander Isak.
Alvarez, who has succeeded at Atlético Madrid, must rank as a key target due to his record of impressive goal-scoring feats for this La Liga club – 29 goals and 8 assists, with hopefully more time before the end of the 2024-25 season to impress the bosses in Cataĺonia!
Gyokeres, as a Swedish star for Sporting CP, brings that physicality and clinical finishing touch for a reputed transfer fee of around €70 million.
Time will tell if this fee might tempt a Barça move. David – currently at Lille, brings an adaptable sharpness, cost-effective to the cost to the squad, and possibly Isak, is a preferred striker target chosen also reputedly by sporting director Deco, aspiring to also show off his finer movements in the attacking phase.
Every candidate has their profile, but their significant costs create a roadblock for Barcelona’s poor financial position.
