Barcelona is once again looking to return to a possible future player from Mallorca’s academy as they ramp up their pursuit of some players.
Barcelona has a history of scouting young prospects, however, their indecision could cost them.
Diario Sport stated that they are after a young striker who has caught several eyes with his performances and that they should move quickly to secure him.
Barcelona attempted to sign the 18-year-old last summer for more than €500,000 plus bonuses, but Mallorca were adamant on a €1.5 million fee, which resulted in a contractual stalemate.
His value has skyrocketed since then, and it was only raised further by his build, goal-scoring ability, and impact in recent Mallorca senior games.
Another interesting note, the striker recently signed with agent Pini Zahavi, who represents many Barcelona players like Robert Lewandowski and Hansi Flick, possibly making negotiations more straightforward.
The player is Marc Domenech, and Barcelona’s indecision could backfire.
Right now, his release clause is at €4 million, an amount that could likely be negotiated without too much trouble.
However, there is a crucial difference in Domenech’s contract–in the third year of his five-year deal he will move to a professional contract, meaning that his salary would increase from €33,000 to €300,000 a year and that his release clause will then rise to €10 million.
This limits the timeframe for Barcelona to get him for a bargain.
Domenech is known as one of the shining lights in Mallorca’s youth prospects and possesses the characteristics that Barcelona would be looking for in a next-generation player.
There could be pressure on the Blaugrana to manage the finances so they need to weigh the risks of acting on the player, as opposed to waiting and possibly having to pay more in the future.
Acting quickly could see them lock in a prospect, or they may roll the dice and see another competitor swoop in.
