Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a return for a former La Masia hope who left the club to sign for Bayern Munich in 2022.
The 18-year-old left-back, who was once one of Barcelona’s shining lights from its mythical academy La Masia, has been impressing regularly in Germany.
Having become a regular in Bayern’s first team halfway through the season with three appearances, he was loaned to Real Valladolid in January, where he has already made seven appearances in La Liga.
His development has not gone unnoticed by all, and now, Barcelona is eyeing a return for the La Masia star.
According to German Journalist Christian Fallk, the player is Adam Aznou.
The Catalan giants already possess Alejandro Balde as their unchallenged first-choice left-back, with cover in the shape of Gerard Martin.
But the club is looking at options to beef up the position, including possibly taking in another La Masia product, Jofre Torrents, to the first team in a year.
But Aznou’s experience of the Barcelona system and his close relationship with young star Lamine Yamal make him an attractive option.
But despite this interest, a transfer will be by no means straightforward.
Bayern Munich will not sell Aznou, who has a contract to remain there until 2027.
The Bundesliga champions view him as a long-term talent and plan to bring him into their first-team ranks next season as cover for Alphonso Davies.
Barcelona’s interest is to draw attention to their continued fight to hold onto the best La Masia players, with a string of players—Aznou included—having left in recent times for greener pastures elsewhere.
Although the club’s financial struggles make it an affordable solution to re-sign past prospects, Bayern’s insistence will see the transfer subject to intense negotiation.
Aznou is currently preoccupied with his loan stint at Valladolid, but his destiny can be anticipated to become an issue of utmost urgency this summer as Barcelona balances its transfer market choices.
