Marc Casado’s future at Barcelona is becoming an increasingly sensitive topic ahead of the summer transfer window, with uncertainty growing around whether the La Masia midfielder will still be part of Hansi Flick’s plans next season.
The 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself over the past year, finding consistent game time difficult to secure as competition intensifies in Barcelona’s midfield department.
Flick’s options in the middle of the pitch have pushed Marc Casado further down the hierarchy, with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal and Gavi all ahead of him in the pecking order. On top of that, there were also occasions last season when Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo were preferred in midfield roles, further limiting his opportunities.
As a result, there has been growing expectation within the club that Casado could be made available this summer, with Barcelona viewing a potential sale as a way to generate valuable revenue amid ongoing squad planning.
Interest has already begun to emerge from abroad, with AC Milan stepping forward as one of the clubs monitoring the situation. Reports from AS suggest that agent Jorge Mendes even presented the midfielder to the Serie A side as a possible market opportunity.
However, despite the interest from Milan, Casado has now reportedly rejected the chance to move to Italy this summer, turning down the Rossoneri’s approach.
The decision is understood to be driven by his desire to remain at Barcelona and continue fighting for his place, even if his current standing in the squad makes that a challenging task.
From a sporting perspective, the outlook remains difficult. With such strong competition ahead of him and Flick having already shown preferences for other midfield profiles, breaking into the regular rotation would require a significant shift in circumstances.
Even so, Casado’s stance keeps the door open to further developments, as his situation is unlikely to remain static throughout the window. Barcelona’s willingness to consider offers still stands, meaning his future remains firmly unresolved despite rejecting AC Milan’s proposal.
With several other European clubs expected to monitor the situation, Casado now finds himself at a crossroads: stay and fight for a breakthrough in an elite midfield system, or eventually reconsider opportunities elsewhere if minutes continue to be limited.
