Barcelona has moved swiftly to gain an advantage in the pursuit of a high-profile La Liga star, positioning itself ahead of rival clubs in a strategic long-term signing.

Barcelona is actively revamping its goalkeeping future and already has plans in place to sign a veteran La Liga goalkeeper in 2026.

The club has already engaged in early negotiations with a Real Sociedad player whose release clause will drop down from its current value of €70 million, thus making it financially possible in the years to come.

This early engagement shows Barcelona wants to strike a balance in the mix with youth and experience in their squad as they address their developing goalkeeping department amid changes and opposing competition.

The goalkeeper aiming for is Alex Remiro, as reported by Diario Sport.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been a consistent player for Real Sociedad.

With Joan Garcia being highlighted as the successor to Marc-Andre ter Stegen and with Wojciech Szczesny’s extension only secured until 2026, Barcelona must be thinking ahead.

Remiro’s experience and good performances also make him a good candidate to provide assurance, especially since Barcelona has to defend their goalkeepers and their potential new approach is changed in reliance on their need for separate options.

Sporting director Deco and current goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente are both seriously considering Remiro as a possible target, with their recommendation reflecting their sincerity.

Barcelona’s unique approach to gradual succession planning for goalkeeping has been shaken by an uncertain future for Ter Stegen this season and a moving transfer market.

Backing up this urgency is new interest from Premier League team Aston Villa, which caused Deco to pick up the pace of contact so he could act quickly and beat any rivals to the punch.

There is no deal in place yet, but full outreach shows Barcelona’s commitment to pursuing their long-term goalkeeping plans.

While continuing to develop a solution that leaves the club characteristically flexible and competitive in the coming years.
