Barcelona is actively navigating the complexities of the summer transfer market and is looking to improve on attacking options.
Reports detail that the Blaugrana have a first-choice target, Nico Williams, but they are preparing for an alternative.
If more than likely, when the pursuit of their top-choice does not materialize, the club has an alternative target to still strengthen their attack.
The alternative target is Ademola Lookman, the 27-year-old forward who has impressed this season with Atalanta, as reported by Fichajes.
Lookman is one of the standout performers in a very competitive Serie A as he has accumulated 18 goals and 7 assists across 37 appearances next season.
His impressive performances leading the way to Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League title have added to his allure as an option for Barcelona.
He also has the added benefit of being able to play more than one position.
This helps Barcelona since they are looking for attackers who can play more than one position, so speed and finishing instinct were factors when the club considered options.
What makes Lookman an even more attractive option is his position at Atalanta.
It seems he recently had a falling out with the manager, and he has asked for a transfer, which may mean his transfer value drops to around €35 million—a steal, especially when compared with the premium price on Barcelona’s priority target.
The price point is significant for a club that is mindful of financial constraints while also trying to maintain competitive squad depth.
Barcelona’s board is exhibiting foresight by keeping Lookman as a strong plan B.
For the time being, the priority remains their focus, but the Club can pivot quickly if that funding doesn’t materialize.
The summer transfer window is long; it enables Barcelona to strategically wait until the end of the transfer window to add a quality player to the offensive line-up, whether their preferred player or the talented Ademola Lookman.
