Aston Villa mean business in the Premier League transfer market as they set their sights on a multi-position forward from Barcelona, with reports suggesting a potential €40 million move.

With Unai Emery as head coach and Monchi leading their player recruitment department, Villa are seeking to bring in attacking players to remain as competitive as possible in English football.

Any such transfer could undoubtedly be made easier, given that this player has a record of playing in the Premier League, as reported by Birmingham Live.

The fact that he has played in multiple attacking positions would only make him an ideal target, considering Emery’s tendency to change formations based on both opposition and available players.

The player is Ferran Torres, who, at 25 years old, sees himself as a Spanish national player but has merely been a rotated player for Barcelona under Hansi Flick.

Torres, who was previously a Manchester City player, has had decent form this season, with 11 goals and three assists in his 29 appearances in all competitions.

But, even with that record, he finds himself having to compete for a starting place in a side that has become even harder to break into, whilst Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha all settle into their respective positions and roles.

That situation has seen speculation about Torres’ future, with Aston Villa willing to exploit a situation where Torres is looking for a more regular starting role.

Barcelona, while not keen to sell, are willing to entertain offers of around €40 million for the player, to meet La Liga’s financial fair play criteria.

Torres’ unwillingness to exit Catalonia could be a concern, although he may find it more enticing that he would be getting regular minutes at a Villa team looking to get to that all-important European football.

Barcelona still has excellent negotiating power with Torres contracted till 2027.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Villa’s pursuit of Torres shows their commitment to competing at the highest level, but prising the player away from Camp Nou will be a challenge.
