Aston Villa are preparing for an audacious summer transfer window and are looking to sign a key player from Barcelona to help their Premier League cause.
As per Diario Sport, the English side is ready to offer €50m for the versatile forward, who they feel brings an unnamed dimension to their squad and, with their newfound financial clout, can make the deal happen.
However, Villa’s intent and sporting director Monchi’s admiration won’t be enough to complete the transfer, as getting the player out of the Camp Nou is going to be exceptionally tough when he is so important to the revival of the club, and has signed off on a one-half and an 18-month turnaround!
The player in question is Ferran Torres, a 27-year-old Spaniard who has rounded into form under Hansi Flick.
In a new role as the centre-forward, Torres has scored 19 goals and 7 identified assists in 45 games so far this season, not least of which has been accounted for in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey record.
Torres is an important element of Barcelona’s attacking identity.
Villa’s eagerness, backed by the possible funding from Emiliano Martínez’s supposed transfer to Saudi Arabia, ensures they are serious about beating the European elite.
However, Torres has already made clear he is committed to Barcelona, which he believes is home after coming from Manchester City.
Flick holds him in high regard and sees him as a key member of both the present and the future; he intends to incorporate him into a more flexible front line.
Torres’s words correspond to his desire, and he seems eager for how the team picture will unfold, as well as eager for the project at the club.
Villareal can do nothing until Barcelona recovers financially to be able to sell Torres.
If Flick regards Torres as irreplaceable, along with his public statements, a transfer seems unlikely.
Unless the world suddenly turns upside down, it seems Aston Villa bid of €50 million will come up short, and Torres will continue his rebirth at Barcelona.
