Aston Villa have firmly denied rumors of a €50 million bid for a key Barcelona star, putting an end to speculation about a potential blockbuster transfer.

Mundo Deportivo has categorically denied the speculation of a €50 million transfer of a Barcelona attacking star to Aston Villa.

Sources close to the Premier League side have insisted that there are currently no negotiations taking place and that the reported price tag was “greatly exaggerated.”

Reports in England suggested that Unai Emery’s side, with the backing of sporting director Monchi, were preparing a huge bid, but we understand that it has not progressed to that.

While Aston Villa are no doubt impressed by the 25-year-old’s skill and acknowledged he fits their technical profile, a deal of that scale is not possible given his price point and transfer strategy.

The player in question is Ferran Torres, who remains an important player this season under Hansi Flick at Barcelona.

Flick sees Torres as a fundamental player for next season, especially for the false nine position.

Torres had eight goals for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, in which he was the country’s leading goalscorer and the player who led Barcelona to create more than a few trophies alongside his teammates, while quelling any doubts about the coach and Torres’ involvement in next season’s plan.

Torres is settled at the club and is not likely to be transferred, as he is determined to win his place in the squad.

Internally, the club sees him as the direct successor to Robert Lewandowski when the experienced forward is not available.

For Aston Villa, the focus seems to be on cheaper alternatives, despite a previous interest in the Spanish international.

Flick`s continued faith and Torres’ commitment to Barcelona are indications that they have future plans at Camp Nou.

After a few solid performances, including entering the midfield and adapting his game, he silenced many of the doubters and proved his value to a squad hoping to build off last season.

This denial closes off any immediate speculation and suggests that Torres will continue his resurgence with the Blaugrana, before hopefully contributing to their plans both in La Liga and in other competitions.
