A  highly-rated Aston Villa star has opened the door to a potential January transfer to Barcelona amid growing interest.

The Catalan club, intent on consolidating its lead in Spain and competing deep in Europe, views the winter market as a window to add a left-footed centre-back who can instantly adapt to its possession-heavy, high-press structure.

With fixtures piling up across league, Copa, and continental competition, sporting director Deco is exploring an experienced option rather than another long-term project.

That experienced defender is Pau Torres, who has made clear his total willingness to leave Aston Villa and return to Spain to wear the Barcelona shirt after his Premier League spell, as reported by Fichajes.

The 28-year-old, a long-time Spain international, believes his cycle in England is nearing its end and sees reuniting with La Liga as the ideal step to rediscover the dominance he showed at Villarreal.

For Barcelona, his ball-playing quality, calm under pressure, and natural fit on the left side of central defense represent a market opportunity that is hard to ignore in mid-season.

In Birmingham, Villa’s stance has shifted as the player’s desire has become public.

Though Unai Emery trusts him, the club would not close the door if a suitable financial offer arrived, with a fee around £35 million understood to satisfy their expectations and fund reinforcements in other positions.

Pau Torres has not consistently replicated his Villarreal peak in the Premier League, which makes his potential sale more palatable for a side chasing Champions League qualification and needing liquidity.

Barcelona’s sporting department, meanwhile, values his versatility and tactical intelligence to slot into Flick’s demanding high line and pressing scheme.

If conditions align, Spanish football could recover one of its prodigal sons, while Flick would gain a luxury defensive piece for a squad aiming to fight for every trophy available this season.
