Barcelona’s summer rebuild continues to take shape as the club reshuffles its attacking options ahead of the new season.
The Catalan giants have already been active in managing their squad depth, with departures expected as part of a wider long-term planning strategy.
Attention around La Masia graduates remains a constant theme at the club, especially when it comes to players who were once tipped for the very top.
Over the past few seasons, Barcelona have gradually moved on from several academy products as they balance financial pressure with sporting ambition.
One of those long-anticipated exits has now been made official after a permanent agreement was reached with a Ligue 1 side.
Barcelona have confirmed, via their website, that Ansu Fati has completed a permanent transfer to AS Monaco after the French club activated a €11 million purchase option following his loan spell.
In an official statement, the club said, “FC Barcelona and AS Monaco have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ansu Fati.”
They added, “The 23-year-old striker brings to an end his time as a blaugrana after making 123 appearances for the first team, scoring 29 goals. The Club retains a percentage of any future sale.”
Fati’s journey at Barcelona began in 2012 when he joined La Masia at just ten years old, quickly progressing through the youth ranks as one of the most exciting prospects of his generation.
He made his senior debut under Ernesto Valverde during the 2019/20 season at just 16 years old, immediately earning a reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young attackers.
Barcelona later placed major faith in him following Lionel Messi’s departure by handing him the iconic No.10 shirt, a clear sign of his status within the squad at the time.
However, his progress was repeatedly disrupted by injuries, which prevented him from fully establishing himself as a consistent starter at Camp Nou.
In search of rhythm and minutes, he was loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign before spending the following season on loan at Monaco, where he showed encouraging signs of recovery.
Monaco have now decided to make the move permanent, rewarding his progress with a full transfer after a season-long evaluation period.
Barcelona concluded their announcement by paying tribute to the forward, stating, “FC Barcelona would like to thank Ansu Fati publicly for his commitment, dedication and his contribution during his time as a Blaugrana, and wishes him all the best for the future both on and off the field.”
