A talented Arsenal midfielder is keen on a mid-season move to Barcelona, boosting hopes of a successful winter pursuit.
The January transfer window is shaping up to deliver significant movement across European football, with high-profile players already positioning themselves for potential moves.
As clubs evaluate their squads ahead of the mid-season market, unexpected developments are beginning to emerge from top Premier League camps.
Among the most intriguing storylines is a sudden push from a prominent midfielder currently playing in North London, who is reportedly eager to secure a high-profile switch to La Liga when the transfer window opens.
That player is Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has allegedly made it clear that he is open to joining Barcelona.
According to Transfer News Live, the Spanish international has seen his regular playing time diminish under Mikel Arteta this season, prompting his camp to sound out potential destinations.
Having arrived in North London with high expectations following a major big-money move, the playmaker has struggled to secure a consistent starting role in the Premier League, leading to growing speculation over a swift departure.
Zubimendi’s representatives have reportedly reached out to several elite European suitors, with Barcelona standing out as a preferred destination for the player.
However, any potential deal will face considerable hurdles, not least because of Arsenal’s stance on mid-season departures.
Mikel Arteta has historically been reluctant to weaken his squad during the winter window, especially as the Gunners look to maintain depth across multiple competitions.
With a grueling fixture schedule ahead, the Arsenal hierarchy will weigh the player’s reported desire to leave against the sporting demands of a title-chasing campaign.
As January approaches, the situation surrounding Zubimendi is expected to intensify, turning into one of the window’s most closely watched sagas.
