Barcelona’s scouting network remains as active as ever, combing South America for emerging talents capable of making a mark on the global stage.

The club has been particularly focused on the ongoing U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where some of the continent’s brightest prospects are showcasing their skills.

In recent years, Barcelona have turned youthful promise into first-team impact, making the identification of standout teenagers a key part of their strategy.

The club’s scouts are also analysing the transition of young players from domestic leagues to international competitions, ensuring they can move quickly before rivals do.

This meticulous approach emphasises Barcelona’s commitment to maintaining a pipeline of talent ready for future success.

In line with this, journalist Albert Fernandez of GOL reports, via X, that Barcelona are closely monitoring 17-year-old Argentine striker Thomas de Martis.

Thomas de Martis, who currently represents Lanus in Argentina, has been catching the eye of scouts with his performances for the Albiceleste national team at the U-17 World Cup.

he teenager has already made two senior appearances for Lanus and has played 19 matches for their reserve team, scoring twice.

Internationally, he boasts nine goals in 14 outings for Argentina’s U-17 side, although he has yet to find the net in Qatar.

Earlier this year, De Martis finished as the top scorer at the U-17 South American Championship, bagging six goals.

Underlining Barcelona’s interest, the teenager signed a new contract with Lanus earlier this year that runs until 31 December 2027.

Scouts have reportedly been monitoring him for several months, gauging his development and potential fit for the club’s style of play.

With his 18th birthday approaching in June 2026, De Martis will be eligible to move to Europe next summer, which could pave the way for Barcelona to act decisively.

For now, the club is keeping a close eye on his performances at the World Cup, weighing up whether he could become the next breakthrough talent to join their ranks.

Barca are also targetting another Argentinian, Joaquin Panichelli, the 20-year-old Argentine striker shining at Strasbourg.

Barcelona’s reputation for nurturing young forwards suggests De Martis could be on the radar for long-term planning rather than an immediate transfer.
