Barcelona’s summer activity is picking up pace, but with new arrivals on the horizon, tough sacrifices are becoming inevitable at the Camp Nou.

Joan Garcia has already made the short switch from Espanyol to join Hansi Flick’s project, and progress on a deal for Athletic Club’s Nico Williams continues behind the scenes.

Yet for all the ambition shown in the transfer market, the club’s financial outlook remains far from ideal — and departures will be crucial if Barcelona are to comply with La Liga’s strict financial regulations.

One name now firmly on the chopping block is that of Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen.

Sources close to the club suggest that Barcelona are actively listening to offers for the 29-year-old, as they look to free up funds and space for incoming transfers.

Andreas Christensen joined the Blaugrana from Chelsea on a free transfer in 2022, and although injury problems limited his impact in the 2024/25 season, he returned to the pitch late in the campaign and showed why he’s so highly rated when fully fit.

However, Barcelona’s hierarchy appear ready to cash in.

The club have reportedly set an asking price in the region of €25 million, keen to turn a tidy profit on a player who cost them nothing just two summers ago, as per Sempre Barca.

The Spanish giants may struggle to get their full valuation, with Saudi Pro League clubs — including Al-Nassr, Al-Shabab and Neom SC — preparing €20 million bids.

Although Christensen has a clear preference to remain in Europe, clubs like Juventus, Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Brentford have all been sounded out over a potential move.

Ultimately, Barcelona could be forced to accept a lower fee depending on the shape of the market, but the defender’s availability has certainly not gone unnoticed.

Letting go of Christensen would be a pragmatic decision in a period of transition, especially as the club prioritises Financial Fair Play compliance and moves to register their summer reinforcements.

While losing a player of his calibre is not ideal, the ability to turn a free signing into a multi-million euro asset is exactly the kind of smart business Barcelona need right now.
