FC Andorra has officially signed Barcelona’s promising young goalkeeper on a season-long loan, bolstering its squad.
The agreement, finalized on July 15, 2025, will see the 19-year-old shot-stopper join the second-division side until June 30, 2026, as part of Barcelona’s strategy to nurture their academy prospects through competitive first-team experience.
This transfer follows a similar path taken by another La Masia goalkeeper, reflecting the club’s focus on developing their youth talents for future roles.
The player in question is Aron Yaakobishvili, a rising star who has been with Barcelona since 2018, joining from Atletic Sant Just’s youth ranks, as per the official Barcelona page.
Last season, Yaakobishvili played a pivotal role in Barça Juvenil A’s treble-winning campaign under coach Juliano Belletti, clinching the Division de Honor, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Youth League.
His performances earned him a debut for Barça Atletic in September 2024, where he made three appearances for the reserve team.
Despite the opportunity to compete for the starting goalkeeper spot at Barça Atletic in the Spanish fourth tier, Yaakobishvili’s move to FC Andorra—owned by Barcelona legend Gerard Piqué—offers a chance to gain regular minutes in a more competitive professional league.
This loan move aligns with Barcelona’s broader goalkeeping restructuring.
With Joan Garcia arriving from Espanyol as the new first-choice keeper and Wojciech Szczesny secured as backup, the club’s senior goalkeeping unit is crowded, prompting loan exits for young talents like Yaakobishvili.
The 19-year-old’s contract, extended until 2028, underscores Barcelona’s confidence in his potential. His time at Andorra will be crucial for gaining experience and proving his readiness for higher-level challenges.
Barcelona’s strategy reflects a balance between immediate first-team needs and long-term development.
By sending Yaakobishvili to a competitive environment like La Liga 2, the club ensures he hones his skills while keeping him tied to their plans, a move that could shape the next generation of Barça goalkeepers.
