Barcelona is preparing for a major transfer window as one of their star player has become a target for AC Milan.
Hansi Flick has an abundance of centre-backs and wants to cut down his roster, and they need to transfer out at least one defender for financial reasons.
The 29-year-old, whose contract runs until 2026, is seen as expendable and financially feasible for the Italian giants who want to shore up their defence but have other players higher on their list.
The player in question is Andreas Christensen, the Danish International defender who has been injury-plagued during his time at Barcelona in the last year.
According to Mundo Deportivo, AC Milan sees Christensen as a Plan B after they pursued Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, whose cost is too high for the Rossoneri’s budget, and are considering possible options.
With Christensen’s past playing experience in La Liga and the Premier League makes sense budget-wise, and he has prior working experience; however, Christophersen would possibly reject a move as he has previously rejected other offers from Saudi Arabia.
The defender is committed to Barcelona, having been a squad player since his arrival from Chelsea in 2022.
Barcelona’s readiness to reach a low fee indicates their sense of urgency to relieve given Christensen’s wages, but Christensen’s desire to stay represents a hurdle to be overcome.
On the other side, Milan is balancing a direction towards youth and seeking experience, and Christensen can provide them with the latter.
As the transfer window draws near, it remains to be seen if Milan’s interest will move Christensen or if Barcelona’s financial status will prompt a move and change the Barca defensive direction for the 2025-26 season.
With AC Milan’s bold pursuit gaining momentum, Christensen’s future at Barcelona hangs in the balance, potentially reshaping both clubs’ defensive strategies.
