FC Barcelona has reportedly transfer-listed their €60 million-rated star to fund ambitious summer signings.
FC Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties have necessitated the club making hard choices to balance its books while attempting to sign big names.
Although recently been stated that FC Barcelona’s financial outlook has improved, the Catalan giants remain under obligation to honour La Liga’s financial regulations and salary cap.
In order to make the ambitious moves necessary, such as the recent agreement in principle with Nico Williams, the club is likely to be forced to make it possible by offloading valuable assets.
Reports suggest that the club had one of their diverse young stars in mind – they could make an offer for one of their stars.
The player in question is Fermín López.
According to a report published by COPE’s Helena Condis, Lopez is also not officially on the market, but Barcelona believes Lopez would make a logical player to pursue a decision by a significant transfer fee.
And, with a contract running to 2029, and that he can play centrally, advanced, or on the wing, he really could be a good target for someone like Chelsea, who also wanted to propose a deal including Christopher Nkunku, and instead offered a swap deal.
Although Lopez scored eight goals and assisted ten others in 46 appearances last season, the competition for another starting place in the Barcelona midfield, thanks to stars such as Gavi and Dani Olmo, means that Lopez could be sold to facilitate a lucrative offer.
Lopez has publicly stated he wants to stay and that playing for Barça has been his childhood dream. However, the need for the club to raise money to get the best targets means sentiment may not be a part of the decision-making process.
If a big offer appears, the decision-makers at Barcelona are going to have to make a hard decision moving forward, to seek success on both the pitch and to be financially secure.
