A young Barcelona defender is set for a possible €5 million transfer after being left out of Hansi Flick’s squad.
FC Barcelona’s preparations for their La Liga opener against RCD Mallorca have brought significant squad decisions to light, with manager Hansi Flick announcing his first squad list of the 2025/26 season.
The selection highlights the club’s strategic direction, integrating new signings and youth prospects while signaling potential departures.
Among the notable absences is a teenage defender whose exclusion underscores his likely exit from the club in the ongoing summer transfer window, as Barcelona aim to streamline their roster ahead of a competitive campaign.
The player in question is Hector Fort, a 19-year-old La Masia graduate who was left out of the squad traveling to Son Moix.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona is open to a permanent transfer for Fort, valuing him at approximately €5 million, though a loan with an option to buy appears more likely at this stage.
Fort’s omission from the squad, despite Flick’s inclusion of other young talents like Jofre Torrents, Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, and Toni Fernandez, signals that the right-back does not feature in the manager’s plans for the season.
This follows a previous campaign where Fort saw limited action under Flick, falling behind Jules Koundé and Eric Garcia in the pecking order.
With the transfer window closing in 15 days, Fort’s future is a focal point.
The young defender is seeking a top-flight club that guarantees regular playing time, with a preference to stay in Spain.
RCD Mallorca, Barcelona’s opponents today, have shown keen interest in Fort, though no deal has materialized. Ligue 1 side Paris FC and Premier League club Aston Villa have also inquired about his availability, indicating strong market interest in the versatile teenager.
Fort remains open to exploring opportunities abroad if a suitable project aligns with his ambitions.
As Barcelona balances its squad and financial considerations, Fort’s potential departure reflects the club’s strategy to prioritize players central to Flick’s vision while providing opportunities for its youth prospects elsewhere.
