Barcelona has placed a €12 million valuation on a promising star, with several clubs showing keen interest in securing him.
The club initially didn’t want to sell the academy product, but interest from the Wolverhampton Wanderers has made Barcelona rethink their stance, especially considering Jorge Mendes is involved.
There have been no official bids, but Barcelona feels their player value has risen after a great season, so they could facilitate a transfer to improve their squad.
The player is Gerard Martin, a young defender who played really well in huge games, including two finals against Real Madrid and a Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan, as per Diario Sport.
His value was previously marked as €8 million, but as the supply of good left-backs decreased, his value has gone up.
While he looks very promising, it is unlikely Martin will replace Alejandro Balde as a starting left-back because this position was previously assigned to long-term left-back Balde.
Barcelona has been targeting an experienced left-back, such as Alejandro Grimaldo, and so selling Martin might fund a €15 million transaction.
According to reports, Wolves are going to offer Martin a very lucrative long-term deal and salary that will entice a young defender, despite him wanting to stay at Barcelona.
Barcelona is not pushing Martin out, but would fully entertain a sale above €12m as a financially-neutral understanding of the situation to benefit from Martin leaving, while also allowing the club to bolster their squad.
As interest increases surrounding Martin, Barcelona will expect an offer soon, and if they meet their valuation, the deal can be done, allowing Martin the opportunity to get regular playing time for Wolves in the Premier League and allowing Barcelona to acquire a more experienced alternative addition to their defensive roster.
