Robert Lewandowski is having another amazing season in a Barcelona shirt and yesterday against Rayo Vallecano he added another goal to his tally, taking him to 20 goals in the league.
Despite scoring again, the 36-year-old was visibly angry after being substituted in the 81st minute by Hansi Flick.
Speaking in an interview after the game, via Managing Barca, Flick commented on this outburst, explaining that he understands the Polish forward’s frustrations.
“Lewandowski angry for being subbed off? It’s normal for him to be angry with the change, because he wants to score goals, but the decision is mine. I change players when I consider it appropriate and they have to accept it.”
It is very understandable that Lewandowski wants to stay on the field as long as he can so he can contribute and potentially score more goals, however, everyone needs to manage their minutes.
Barcelona have many quality players on the bench who also deserve minutes and at his age, it would be irresponsible of Flick not to use his squad to ensure the 36-year-old does not pick up an unexpected injury.
Lewandowski will have plenty more chances to score this season and as an experienced professional this moment definitely will not impact him going forward.
