Barcelona has been transformed out of all recognition since Hansi Flick took over as head coach. The team has dominated all competitions this season, and their attacking style has been one of the hallmark strengths.
Barcelona’s incessant attack has proven too much for their opponents, being much more lethal than ever before.
The figures back this dramatic turnabout. In 28 La Liga games, Barcelona has notched a remarkable 78 goals—a huge 23-goal improvement from the same point last term with Xavi.
That amounts to them scoring close to an extra goal a game, which makes them Europe’s best-improved attacking force of the last year.
Most of this success is due to their star forwards. Robert Lewandowski has been scoring prolific with 23 league goals, while Raphinha (13 goals) and young blood Lamine Yamal (6 goals) have also played their part. Ferran Torres has also been highly effective as a substitute, scoring 8 goals for the cause. Collectively, Barcelona’s forwards have scored 52 goals, 22 more than they had scored at this stage last season.
Only Germany’s Mainz has come near such a bout of attacking football, having netted 21 more goals than the previous season. But no other top European club has seen such a dramatic spike in goal-scoring as Barcelona.
With Flick in charge, Barcelona is an extremely lethal and enjoyable team to play for and watch. Their goal-scoring abilities make them one of the most powerful sides in the European continent, and if the ongoing trend is maintained, they are likely to break more records during the remainder of the season.
