A Barcelona frontman has taken a serious step in his career, stating a specific destination as the summer transfer window approaches.
In a season with little playing time and injury woes, the young forward met with his agent to express what he wants for his career moving forward, placing a Ligue 1 club at the top of his list.
This has raised eyebrows, because whatever the player decides could greatly impact his career path, as well as the transfer trajectory for both clubs involved.
The player is Ansu Fati, the 22-year-old winger from Barcelona, who, according to Mundo Deportivo, told his agent, Jorge Mendes, in a recent meeting that he would like to move to AS Monaco.
Fati, at one point thought to be Barcelona’s next big talent, has struggled for minutes under Hansi Flick, only seeing the pitch in 11 matches this season for a total of 298 minutes of action.
Despite reports linking him to a move to Chelsea, who made an offer for the Spaniard, Fati would prefer a move to Monaco, citing the club’s Champions League participation and the opportunity to gain more minutes in Ligue 1.
Fati likely channeled his ambitions to find himself as a player again as he saw the attacking style of Monaco and the European stage as ideal.
Mendes is now in a tough place to negotiate the best deal as both the club’s financial situation and Fati’s current contract, which runs until 2027, are weighted against him.
As the close of the transfer window draws closer, Fati will be determined to insist the Monaco opportunity will take precedent as this could be his chance to kickstart his career in France, while Rivals Barcelona continue their reassessment of attacking options, and fans increasingly question whether or not this overly ambitious plan will pay off in the end.
