Wojciech Szczesny has reportedly communicated his wish to Barcelona to serve as the club’s primary goalkeeper should he come out of retirement to join the team.
The experienced goalkeeper is expected to ink a one-year deal with the Catalan outfit in light of Marc-André ter Stegen’s serious knee injury that will see him out of action for an extended period.
Guillem Balague has reported that Szczesny has made a “strong request,” stipulating that he will only make a comeback to the sport if he is assured the starting role.
This development presents a dilemma for Barcelona, as initial plans pointed towards Iñaki Peña assuming the main goalkeeper position, with Szczesny as his understudy.
If the report is accurate, Peña may need to reassess his position. This situation has the potential to cause tension for Peña, who has demonstrated patience in awaiting his opportunities at Barça.
He recently achieved a shutout against Getafe and is expected to appear in the upcoming match against Osasuna. The situation becomes uncertain with the anticipated arrival of Szczesny in the near future.
