UEFA has finally stated in response to the remarks made by Barcelona, berating referee Szymon Marciniak.
Barcelona lost 4-3 to Inter Milan in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at the San Siro, thus losing 7-6 on aggregate, which prompted the usual reaction to referee Szymon Marciniak on social media.
Flick specifically took issue with key decisions without going into detail, calling for UEFA to investigate Marciniak.
Pedri joined in the criticism, zeroing in on what he felt was a blatant foul on Gerard Martin before what was a crucial equalizer for Francesco Acerbi in stoppage time.
The online furore over Jose Manny Mancebo ruled in the third minute – clearly a foul, however, as Flick claimed all indecisions favoured Inter, caused incredible outrage by Barcelona fans across social media and the duty of care conscious media.
As Szymon Marciniak informed us, Marciniak made no such statement.” Thereby laying to rest the wild imaginings of Marciniak making some sort of retribution or underhanded comments towards Barcelona.
UEFA came out in strong support of Marciniak, who faced an uproar.
As reported by Marca, a UEFA official downplayed any issues by saying, “There is no problem”.
UEFA has demonstrated its allegiance to the 44-year-old Polish referee who officiated the final of the 2022 World Cup and the final of the 2023 Champions League.
Marciniak, with a total of 674 matches, is considered a reliable official and a front-runner for the Inter-PSG final next week, especially since Clement Turpin, the other leading candidate, cannot officiate in this match given the fact he is French.
Marciniak will also officially officiate at the Club World Cup in 2025.
Unfortunately for Barcelona, the evident support by UEFA to Marciniak signals trust in his judgment and the headlines will instead focus on Inter’s path to the Munich final in May 31.
