Earlier this week, if you had asked people around Barça who the most likely person to leave the club would be, nearly all of them would have said Ronald Araújo.
However, due to an incredible effort by Deco, Hansi Flick and his teammates, the 25-year-old defender has been convinced to remain at the club.
This has come as a massive blow to Juventus, who were the front-runners to sign Araújo this January, even having a bid rejected.
When the Uruguayan was linked with a move away, it meant that the likelihood of Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen leaving the club this window was almost zero.
The Danish defender has been struggling with injuries since he signed and Girona have been pushing hard to sign Garcia since his loan move.
It was understood at the Blaugrana were willing to let both leave if the right offer came in, but due to Araújo potentially leaving, it was expected that they were going to stay.
However, SPORT, via Managing Barca, are now reporting that due to the Uruguayan defender deciding to remain at Barcelona, it has opened the door for Garcia and Christensen to potentially seek transfers to other clubs this month.
On the other hand, Hansi Flick has said numerous times he is happy with his squad and due to Ińigo Martínez’s injury, the German might decide to keep the pair around as a last resort.
