Santos president Marcelo Teixeira remains hopeful that Neymar will prolong his tenure at the Brazilian team beyond the summer.

However, serious discussions are happening with clubs involved in this summer’s European Champions League.

Neymar, the highest-scoring player for Brazil of all time, rejoined Santos in January 2025 due to an injury-plagued time in Saudi Arabia (Al-Hilal).

As his contract is coming to an end, there is rampant speculation regarding where the 33-year-old will play next, as reported by Goal.

In a recent statement, Teixeira noted that he hoped Neymar would in fact stay at Santos and said, “That’s my impression,” suggesting the club is eager to keep their star player.

Neymar’s father, Neymar Sr., confirmed to L’Équipe that he and Neymar would talk with Champions League clubs in Miami, and he also noted there was significant interest from Europe.

He said, “There are European clubs. Some are in the Champions League. They all know he’s capable of having a big year.”

However, he also said that staying at Santos is a realistic option, especially with Neymar resettled into his life with his partner Bruna Biancardi.

Neymar Sr. added, “There is a big chance he will stay at Santos. I’m working for that.”

The concept of him remaining with Santos until the 2026 World Cup is enticing to Santos, particularly with Teixeira and Neymar Sr., concerned with the player’s happiness and form.

He could continue to attract attention from clubs across the globe, but it will all come down to Neymar’s decision.

Santos is pushing hard for a contract extension, while fans are also waiting to see if the Brazilian sensation will remain a Santos fan for life or whether he will pursue other trails within Europe.
