The RFEF has ruled on the red card of Hansi Flick, impacting FC Barcelona’s strategy for the crucial El Clasico battle.

Hansi Flick’s squad, navigating injuries to Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, and Raphinha, faces additional challenges off the pitch as disciplinary issues from the Girona match have sparked controversy.

With the Champions League win over Olympiacos boosting morale, a recent ruling has shifted focus to the sidelines, impacting preparations for one of football’s fiercest rivalries.

The RFEF has rejected Barcelona’s appeal to overturn Flick’s red card from the Girona game, confirming a one-match suspension, as reported by Gerard Romero.

Hansi Flick was sent off by referee Gil Manzano for two quick yellows—one for sarcastically applauding a decision and another for a gesture of disapproval.

The club, backed by president Joan Laporta, argued the second booking was harsh, but the RFEF upheld the decision, stating, “It is appropriate to dismiss the request to nullify the double booking,” citing Article 120 of their Disciplinary Code.

Flick will miss El Clasico, with assistant Marcus Sorg set to lead.

The ruling is a blow for Barcelona, who rely on Flick’s tactical acumen, evident in their 6-1 Olympiacos rout led by Fermin Lopez’s hat-trick.

Sorg, who managed against Olympiacos due to Flick’s domestic ban, faces a daunting task against Xabi Alonso’s Madrid, weakened by David Alaba’s absence.

Barcelona’s appeal, echoing an unsuccessful 2024 challenge against Real Betis, reflects their frustration with refereeing decisions, as Laporta criticized Manzano’s call.

With Lamine Yamal and Marcus Rashford driving the attack and a €380m Spotify deal easing financial strain, Barcelona remain resilient.

However, Flick’s absence, coupled with Ronald Araujo’s reported frustrations, tests squad unity.

The RFEF’s decision, imposing fines and a ban, adds pressure as Barcelona aim to exploit Madrid’s defensive gaps.

Sorg’s leadership must channel Flick’s intensity to ensure the Blaugrana seize this Clasico opportunity and maintain their title chase.
