Barcelona star Raphinha has publicly accused Disneyland Paris of racism after an incident involving his young son during a family visit.
The Brazilian winger shared a video on social media showing his two-year-old son, Gael, being deliberately ignored by a park mascot, while other white children were warmly greeted and embraced by the character.
Raphinha expressed his outrage and disappointment, labeling the Disneyland staff as “a disgrace” for their treatment of his son, especially given that employees at such venues are meant to bring joy to children.
According to GOAL, Raphinha’s son patiently waited his turn to hug a chipmunk character from the Cinderella franchise, but was brushed off and snubbed, leaving the toddler disheartened.
The Barcelona player questioned why the mascot welcomed all the white children but ignored his son, suggesting racial discrimination.
He called out Disneyland Paris directly on Instagram, stating that the staff’s behavior was shameful and unacceptable toward a child, ending with a harsh message saying, “I hate you, Disneyland.”
This incident has sparked extensive discussions online about racial discrimination in public spaces and the contrast it brings to Disneyland’s carefully cultivated reputation as “the happiest place on Earth.”
Raphinha, known for speaking out against racism in football, has brought attention to what he views as a troubling pattern of exclusion, now extending beyond the football field to his personal family experience.
Disneyland Paris has not yet issued an official statement regarding the accusations.
The episode is a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges of racism even in environments that are supposed to be safe and joyful for all children.
Raphinha’s stance has resonated globally, particularly with parents and communities advocating for racial equality and respectful treatment for all children everywhere
