Barcelona winger Raphinha has always been outspoken.
In an interview with TNT Sports Brazil, Raphinha looked back at his experience at the club, a few setbacks, and where he thinks he may be heading in the future.
He made it clear he is committed to his team, but also will think about going away from the club if he feels he is not appreciated.
Raphinha has probably been one of Barcelona’s most important performers this season and is currently one of the contenders for the Ballon d’Or under the management of Hansi Flick.
With interest from Premier League clubs and big money offers from Saudi Arabia, the 27-year-old believes he is happy at Camp Nou as long as he has one caveat.
“I will only stay where they want me to stay,” he said. “I may want to stay here for my whole life; however, if I believe they do not want me here, that will be no problem for me, and I will thank them for their work,” Raphinha said it loud and clear: loyalty is a two-way street.
If the club makes it clear they do not want him, he will walk with graciousness instead of bitterness.
Raphinha’s stay in Catalonia has had its ups and downs.
He has endured intense criticism, particularly when injuries have hampered his form.
Taking on accusations that suggest his performances declined because there were problems with his attitude, he rejected the allegations as “ridiculous rumors.”
“It’s funny because journalists pretend to know everything that goes on behind closed doors in the dressing room,” he said, mocking the exaggerated stories being written while he explained how things were overlooked because of injuries, like the hamstring issues he faced last season, particularly when people suggested he was not helping.
Raphinha has had frustrations in the past but is now more able to take criticism lightly, only seeking to be better and improve himself.
“I have always known who I am,” he said, showing that his mental focus was as important as his ability.
As the key player and captain of Barcelona FC, Raphinha’s future is secure for now, but he is clear on one point: you will give respect.
