Nico Williams has dropped a strong hint about a potential move to Barcelona this summer, sparking excitement.

Williams, an international for Spain, has agreed to terms on a six-year deal with the Blaugrana until 2031, and a net salary of €7-8 million per season.

Nico Williams, the 22-year-old Athletic Club winger, has “emptied his locker” at the club training ground and is on the verge of joining FC Barcelona, according to Josep Pedrerol on El Chiringuito TV.

Although Bayern Munich made a large offer for his services and he could probably have earned more there, Williams would much rather go to Barcelona, and hopefully play alongside close friend Lamine Yamal and join Hansi Flick’s forward line.

Barcelona wish to sign Williams, but are struggling to finance the move.

Nico Williams has a buy-out clause of €58 million, which, due to CPI (Consumer Price Index) changes, has been reduced to €62 million.

Athletic Club said “no” to Barcelona’s flexible payment options, but allegedly offered the payment option to Bayern.

Barcelona are working hard to raise cash, starting to sell off some fringe players to finance the clause to register Williams for the 2025/26 season.

Nico Williams has turned down alternative competitive bids from clubs like Arsenal and Bayern.

Williams’s demonstration of his intention and commitment to move to FC Barcelona is shown by agreeing to have blood on his hands in La Liga, for a club that has aspirations similar to his own.

Williams’ departure from Athletic Club has put a writing catalyst to a chapter, but his blistering pace, flair, and ability to score goals make him an excellent candidate for Barcelona’s ongoing project.

It’s safe to say the club is optimistic, especially with Williams’ strong signal that he is willing to move.

With pre-season beginning on July 13, this potential signing will surely change how Barcelona approaches their attacks, offering new depth and excitement.

However, the next steps will be crucial in dealing with the financial department of La Liga in being able to finalize Williams’ transfer and to see him wearing the Blaugrana shirt at the end of the transfer window.
