Athletic Club and Spain winger Nico Williams has revealed further details about his decision to reject last summer’s move to Barcelona over the weekend.
In the summer of 2024, Barcelona was trying to add a prolific winger to their roster. Nico Williams was the best option. His name was prominently featured in media stories throughout last summer’s transfer window.
The winger had an excellent Euro competition in the same year, which followed the 22-year-old’s attracting worldwide interest in his signing.
Nico Williams Reveals Barcelona Rejection
Barcelona, for one, worked hard to get Nico in for much of the summer, hoping to pair the Spanish international with close buddy Lamine Yamal.
At one point during the window, the transfer was described as a formality. Speaking to the media this weekend, Nico was asked again why his move to Catalonia did not go through. In an interview with France Football, as reported by Goal, the attacker went on to explain:
“The relationships we have at the heart of the club is incredible. Everyone respects everyone else, which is incredible. I’ll never have it anywhere else. I decided to stay because of that. I made the decision and it was the right one. I’m happy, and I’m trying to do my best.”
