Manchester United are reportedly optimistic about securing Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, according to Spanish source Fichajes.
After parting ways with Erik ten Hag due to a poor season start, United appointed Ruben Amorim as the new manager.
Amorim, known for favoring a 3-4-2-1 setup with dual attacking midfielders, has relied on Bruno Fernandes in this role, with Mason Mount signed last year as additional support.
However, Mount has struggled to settle, with injuries impacting his performances. United are now reportedly eyeing an attacking midfielder to bolster the squad.
Fichajes reports that Amorim’s staff sees Lopez as an ideal candidate and are “determined” to bring him to Old Trafford.
Although Lopez recently extended his Barcelona contract through 2029, with a £414 million release clause, United believe Barcelona may accept a reduced offer. They’re preparing an £83 million bid in hopes of swaying the Catalan club.
Amorim, known for a high-intensity style, reportedly seeks players suited to his energetic system, and Lopez fits the mold.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a standout summer with Spain, winning Olympic gold and contributing to Spain’s European Championship win. Primarily an attacking midfielder, Lopez can also play wide and might welcome a move to United for more consistent game time.
