Manchester United have outlined two firm conditions that could shape Marcus Rashford’s potential transfer to Barcelona.
Manchester United’s summer transfer work, under manager Ruben Amorim, is ramping up in the transfer market as they reconstruct following their disappointing 15th-place finish.
Something has to be done at the club and one of the issues they will need to address is regarding one of their academy products, Marcus Rashford.
The 27-year-old winger has already indicated his desire to go to Spanish giants, Barcelona.
While playing on loan with Aston Villa where he managed four goals and six assists in 17 appearances, Rashford has made it clear he is looking for a new challenge with Barcelona his current choice.
Despite his loan at Aston Villa, this has not changed Rashford’s thoughts on continuing his career elsewhere.
Nevertheless, Manchester United is adamant that all future deals take into account their long-term objectives.
The Red Devils have laid down two caveats regarding Rashford making a move to Barcelona.
The first is for Barcelona to pay Rashford’s full wage of £325,000 a week for the entire duration of a season-long loan, as reported by Manchesterworld.
This is approximately, £13.5 million, which would fall away from the books if struck in mid-June.
The second is Barcelona includes an obligation to purchase Rashford, guaranteeing a transfer fee for December 2026.
This is to prevent embarrassing situations like Chelsea’s £5 million penalty for not purchasing Jadon Sancho.
These conditions reflect United’s need to manage their wage bill and fund Amorim’s squad overhaul, with targets like Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo in sight.
Barcelona’s financial constraints, compounded by their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, complicate the deal.
Rashford, keen on playing alongside Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, may need to accept a pay cut to facilitate the move.
As negotiations continue, United’s firm stance ensures they maintain control over Rashford’s exit, balancing sentiment for their academy graduate with the practicalities of a major rebuild.
