FC Barcelona is about to receive a staggeringly lucrative advance in payment for their upcoming tour of Asia.
Not only will they receive a guaranteed € 15 million, but if they meet certain performance objectives, that number could reach € 20 million.
Barça will play three friendly matches during the tour, which will take place in July 2025 in Japan and South Korea, and is the team’s first tour of Asia since 2019, having spent 2022-2023 touring the US.
The first match will take place in Japan on July 27 against Vissel Kobe, which will be followed by two other matches on July 31 against FC Seoul and on August 4 against Daegu FC in South Korea, as reported by AS.
This comes at a crucial time for Barcelona, as the club continues to navigate Financial Fair Play regulations.
Although the club is accounting for € 15 million in fixed fee revenue, the added broadcast revenue and commercial contributions could further improve the club’s financial position, while they are also still in discussions over signing additional players such as Nico Williams.
Club sources indicate that they are also thinking about including an open training session in Bahrain, which could increase revenue without obligating the club to add a fully-fledged friendly match.
Unlike rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, who will receive much greater financial benefits from the FIFA Club World Cup, Barcelona’s exclusion from that tournament provides a “normal” pre-season.
This means that Hansi Flick’s team can concentrate on preparations to get its players in the best possible condition for the 2025/26 season.
The Asia tour gives Barcelona extra revenue and strengthens Barcelona’s global brand.
Most likely, these matches will have huge crowds against big clubs.
So, as Barcelona continues to rise under Flick, this tour is an important step towards financial and competitive sustainability.
