FC Barcelona has delivered a major win on the field with young star Lamine Yamal signing a new long-term contract with the club.
The 17-year-old winger has become one of the most exciting prospects in football and has played a major role in Barcelona’s revival under the club’s coach, Hansi Flick.
The decision was made today and highlights the club’s intent to build the club around its La Masia star, with president Joan Laporta and director Deco heavily involved in the negotiations.
Yamal’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was crucial in enabling a smooth agreement between both parties, or once again, reinforcing his value as a key dealmaker in football in Europe, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
The new contract now sees the winger at Camp Nou until June 2031 in a deal which shows Barcelona’s belief in his potential to become a global star in football.
It also removes speculation regarding interest in Lamine Yamal from rival clubs, including the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, both of which have admired the Spaniard’s electric dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring capacity for some time.
Lamine Yamal debuted at Barcelona at just 15 and has so far made over 70 appearances as a senior player for the club and produced 12 goals and 18 assists in the 2024-25 season alone.
With financial issues still in the way, securing the future of Yamal was important for a number of reasons.
Importantly, it was securing one of the best young talents for the club, so the club could have it for its own.
Additionally, it’s a reflection of Barcelona’s continued revival to develop young talent and its heritage.
Yamal represents one in a long line of great players and world stars developed and produced by the club. Supporters will be ecstatic that their young hero will not be donning any other color than the Blaugrana, and Barcelona’s goal of being once again the preeminent club on the domestic and European stages.
